In September The Lovely Catalyst ran an amazing yoga retreat at Burmieston Steading, Perthshire

It was the perfect combination of yoga, amazing food, relaxation, laughs and hill walks! Elena is a wonderful retreat host, and I had the absolute pleasure of documenting it for her.

When there was a stunning Aurora Borealis display on the first night during sleepy yoga, we all knew what special retreat it was going to be.

Based in Edinburgh, Elena runs both in-person and online yoga classes.

She also facilitates two yoga retreats each year one in Bali and the other in Perthshire. Next year she is mixing it up, staying with Burmieston in Perthshire but heading to Portugal for her second retreat!

Photographing a retreat is such a joy… I always feel privileged to be there documenting them – all the special moments, the connections, all the tiny details that go into planning them.

Having a photographer there can be daunting – what if they get in the way, what if it makes the attendees uncomfortable? What if they miss key moments!!

That is exactly why having someone there that you trust is so important.

Retreat photography is not for everyone, it takes a different kind of skill – not just knowing your camera inside and out being able to change your settings quickly and quietly… but also knowing the right moments – when to take a photo and when not to.

Reading a room, reading the vibe. Blending in. Joining in.

It’s special.

If you are running a retreat and you would like someone there to document it for (one less thing to worry about among the myriad of things to worry about) then get in touch and we can chat!
